As an Early Learning Tutor, you’ll spend your days helping kids ages 3-5 talk, read, write, sing, and play to develop early reading and math skills. Working closely with a teacher in a classroom, you’ll enhance daily activities and help our youngest learners build both skills and confidence. With training and on-site coaching, you'll be prepared to help kids succeed. Your commitment during school hours throughout the academic year guarantees a significant impact.

How You’ll Take Action

  • Spend your days helping kids play rhyming games, write their names, learn letter sounds, and develop counting skills.
  • Be a caring adult who’s focused on helping students build their skills and confidence.
  • Track student progress and regularly meet with the school’s on-site coach.
  • Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software.
  • Commit to your own growth as a tutor through coaching, training, and professional development.
  • Represent Early Learning Corps at school events and share your experience with the community to raise awareness.

It Starts with a Passion

Early Learning Corps takes everyday people and trains them to be great tutors. Anyone can become a tutor as long as they have a passion to make a difference — and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:

  • Are energized by young learners and want to help them discover new things.
  • Eager to work collaboratively with the classroom teaching team.
  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to understand and follow instructions.
  • Open to making improvements based on feedback.
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.
  • Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs. For more information, click here.
Compensation & Perks Package:

While you’re making a difference, you’ll receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks and additional perks! As an AmeriCorps program we have both federally provided benefits and program specific benefits.


Federal Benefits include:

  • Up to $5176.50 in Education Award
    • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award* which can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to a family member. Click Here for more information.
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment.
  • Time accrual toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Program Specific Benefits by hours commitment per week

35 Hours

  • $1000 stipend paid every two weeks.
  • Individual health insurance — monthly premium 100% covered.
  • Child care assistance — based on family size and income.

25 Hours

  • $750 stipend paid every two weeks.

18 Hours

  • $535 stipend paid every two weeks.

10 Hours

  • $350 stipend paid every two weeks.

Started in 2003, Early Learning Corps has helped more than 115,000 children build early literacy and numeracy skills and get ready for Kindergarten.
