Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Investigations Division (ID) of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) in New York. The Senior Investigations Assistant will report to the Digital Forensic Investigator in New York. OIOS is the internal oversight body of the United Nations and assists the Secretary-General in fulfilling his oversight responsibilities in respect of the resources and staff of the Organization through the provision of audit, investigation, and inspection and evaluation services. ID/OIOS investigates reports of possible violations of rules, regulations, mismanagement, misconduct, waste of resources and abuse of authority. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, and under the direction of the Digital Forensic Investigator, the Senior Investigations Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Collects, organizes, and analyzes information and data related to possible misconduct, malfeasance, mismanagement, fraud, corruption, waste of resources, or violations of the Organization's regulations and rules and administrative instructions; • Assists in preparing detailed forensic analysis reports: ensures that results are accurate, reliable, repeatable, and verifiable; presents findings in an objective, clear, and concise manner; provides testimony for tribunals as needed; • Conducts advanced electronic analysis and visualization; evaluates supporting evidence and information on investigative cases; conducts specialized public data searches; • Assists investigators with open-source online research and properly archives relevant evidence; • Assists the Digital Forensic Investigator in conducting investigations to define, analyze, present, share, and document case-related data, intelligence, and evidentiary material; • Performs digital forensic analysis using validated techniques and methods, including indexing email evidence using INTELLA or similar software tools; • Processes forensic data and evidence for ID case work: assists investigators in preparing requests for ICT services for obtaining evidence and electronic data; follows up on requests and keeps track of the chains of custody and descriptions of data; • Creates forensic images of evidence hard disk drives, and assists in performing the post-image analysis; ensures that all forensic images are securely backed up in the tape drives; assists in drafting the forensic analysis reports; ensures data consistency, accuracy, and adequate set-up for investigators to analyze data; • Manages storage and backup systems for digital forensic evidence, including the transfer of data received from headquarters or other agencies; • Provides training and assistance with research and analysis tools, and forensic software; • Works collaboratively and in coordination with colleagues to achieve Organizational goals, in accordance with standard operating procedures and in compliance with Organizational regulations and rules; • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making; • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or presentations; and • Performs other related duties as required. Experience in conducting professional investigatory work in law enforcement, government, national or international investigation agency is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
